The Rise of Ultraman miniseries from Marvel Comics heads into the home stretch with issue #4, arriving at comic shops everywhere Wednesday, December 9! This issue will again have three fantastic covers for fans to choose from, ranging from standard releases to limited editions. Let’s take a look at them all!

JORGE MOLINA

The standard cover is once again drawn by Jorge Molina, who performed the same duties for the second and third issues of The Rise of Ultraman. Molina is a popular comics artist and product designer whose credits include the 2018 Spider-Man crossover event Spider-Geddon, the all-female Avengers series A-Force and multiple X-Men titles, plus covers for Avengers Assemble and New Mutants.  His cover for The Rise of Ultraman issue #4 reflects a key story point of this series — the imperfect merging of Ultraman, an alien warrior from the Land of Light in Nebula M78, and Shin Hayata, an earthling from Tokyo, Japan. Fans collecting this series should not be surprised to learn that Jorge Molina will return to The Rise of Ultraman with another great cover for issue #5.

E.J. SU

The first variant cover is by artist E.J. Su. Born in Taiwan, Su moved to the US as a teenager. His credits include a popular run on the Transformers comics for IDW Publishing, Tech Jacket with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, and concept designs for Voltron Force 2011 and Transformers Animated. His cover for The Rise of Ultraman issue #4 depicts an agent of the Science Special Search Party arriving to assist Ultraman as the hero struggles against the Skull Monster Red King… a stunning illustration that truly shows the massive scale of the combatants!

Su feels that working on an official cover for Ultraman has been one of his professional highlights, telling Ultraman Galaxy, “Growing up in Taiwan, a lot of Japanese cartoons, movies and comics have been absolutely huge influence in my life. Ultraman characters from the Showa era have been one of my biggest childhood heroes, being able to do an Ultraman cover is absolutely dream comes true, and the fact that this is my first time working with Marvel is an icing on the cake. It’s a surreal experience, I couldn’t be more thrilled!” Only 1 in every 25 copies will feature Su’s artwork, making it the hardest to find of the issue #4 covers. If you see it, don’t miss out!

ED McGUINESS

The final variant for The Rise of Ultraman issue #4 is drawn by Ed McGuinness, the fan-favorite penciller known for his runs on such titles as Deadpool, Hulk, Avengers, Spider-Man/Deadpool and Superman/Batman. This is McGuiness’ second The Rise of Ultraman cover as he previously drew one of the limited edition variants for the series’ first issue. Both of his covers may already be familiar to fans as they were first revealed in one of Marvel’s early announcements for the series. Here, McGuiness presents Ultraman in a fighting stance, ready to defend the Earth from his classic foes, the Space Ninja Alien Baltan and the Ancient Monster Gomora!
